The Experience

The drive from Porto takes about an hour, and somewhere around 10 o'clock you're standing at the Macinhata do Vouga Railway Museum — the only place in Portugal where a narrow-gauge line still runs. Late afternoon brings you to Pateira de Fermentelos, a wetland reserve that opens up suddenly after the inland roads.
