The experience

The day starts at 9am from your Lisbon hotel. From there the route splits depending on which option you booked: some travelers skip ahead to Fátima, others add Nazaré first to see the clifftop village and the Atlantic coast where surfers chase waves over 30 meters high.

Fátima arrives around 12:30pm and is the longest stop. You have time for lunch and a visit to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Portugal. The town draws millions of visitors each year, and the spiritual weight of the place is visible in the crowds and the architecture. After Fátima, the van heads toward Aveiro, arriving around 4pm. Aveiro calls itself the Venice of Portugal: colorful moliceiro boats drift through canals, Art Nouveau buildings line the waterfront, and the local pastry ovos moles (egg yolk and sugar) is worth trying if you stop for a coffee. The final leg to Porto takes an hour, and you arrive at your hotel by 6pm.
