The experience

You get picked up from your Lisbon hotel and driven south in a private jeep to the Sesimbra coast. The route takes you through Arrábida Natural Park, where the mountains meet fine-sand beaches and the guide stops at the viewpoints and the historic sites: Cabo Espichel with its 18th-century sanctuary complex, and Sesimbra Castle, which dates to the 9th century and sits above the fishing village. The jeep handles the winding coastal roads, so you spend the morning looking instead of navigating.

After the morning drive, you stop for lunch (included on some options) and then visit a working tile factory where artisans hand-paint Portuguese ceramics using traditional techniques: stencil work, relief carving, and fine brushwork. Next is a local winery for a wine tasting. If you chose the dolphin option, you board a boat for a two-hour trip along the coast to watch dolphins in their habitat. The day runs seven to nine hours depending on which option you picked.

The guide travels with you the whole time and speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese. Bottled water is provided throughout the day. The jeep is private, so the pace and stops are yours: no group waiting, no schedule built around other travelers.
