The Experience
The day starts by crossing the 25th of April Bridge toward Palmela Castle, where views open across both the Tejo and Sado rivers. From there the route heads into the Setúbal Peninsula, stopping at Livramento Market—one of the world's best, according to the operator—where fish, local cheeses, hand-made pastries, olives and aromatic plants fill the stalls. The guide walks you through Setúbal's historic center, pointing out the Convent of Jesus, the tile-covered Church of São Julião, and the neighborhoods where locals still gather.
The core of the tour is the drive through Arrábida Natural Park, a protected reserve rising over 500 meters with whitish limestone cliffs, blue water and green vegetation covering the ridges. The park overlooks the Sado estuary, where a resident dolphin colony lives—uncommon for this species in Portugal. A boat trip to see them is available to book separately. Next comes José Maria da Fonseca, the oldest table wine company in Portugal, founded in 1834 and still family-run. Wine tasting happens here if you add it at checkout. Sesimbra follows: a fishing village with five centuries of history, the sixteenth-century Fortress of Santiago, and restaurants serving fish caught that morning, grilled over charcoal in the traditional way. Lunch is on your own in Sesimbra.
The final stop is a tile workshop using European hand-painting methods and reproducing antique designs from Islamic, Chinese and Hispano-Moorish traditions. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian or one additional language, and the air-conditioned vehicle stays with you throughout. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is WiFi on board and mandatory insurance.
