The Experience

If you're starting from scratch, they'll find gentler rollers; if you've surfed before, they'll push you toward something with more shape. You get the board, wetsuit, and leash included, so you show up with nothing but yourself. The instructor stays in the water with you, calling out corrections between sets, watching your positioning, telling you when to paddle for the next one.

The practice part is where the time goes — wave after wave, your body learning the motion, your eyes reading the water.
