The experience

The day starts with a two-hour drive from Krakow through Polish countryside toward Dzianisz, passing through the Zakopane region as the landscape shifts toward the Tatra Mountains. An experienced local guide travels with you, and the minivan is air-conditioned for the journey. Once you arrive, you'll get a full briefing on the quad or snowmobile, whichever the conditions allow that day, along with helmets, balaclavas and gloves. Two people can share one machine if you prefer, and snowmobile riding requires no license, though quad drivers need a valid one. The rental fee is paid in cash on site.

The ride itself takes you through alpine trails with mountain scenery around you. Afterward, you gather at a traditional bonfire to eat and drink: smoked oscypek cheese, homemade lard, pickles, fresh bread, sausages, cranberry jam, and flavored Polish liqueurs. Warming drinks are provided throughout. This is where the day slows down before the thermal baths.

Chochołowskie Thermal Baths is a three-hour stop where you move between outdoor lagoons, heated mineral pools and hydromassage beds while looking out at the Tatra Mountains. Lockers are available to store your things, and you'll need to bring swimwear, a towel and flip-flops. The final stretch is a relaxed drive back to Krakow, where you're dropped at your original pickup point.
