The experience
The first day starts with a 25-minute boat ride up the Tambopata River to reach your lodge, where you'll have lunch and then search for capybaras, caimans and sloths along the water before dinner and an overnight stay. The lodge sits close to the river with all rooms overlooking it.
Day two begins with breakfast, then a 1-hour-20-minute boat ride to Lake Sandoval, a body of water just over 3 kilometers long at the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve. After park ranger check-in, you'll walk 3 kilometers inland to the water's edge, where a rowing boat takes you across the lake to spot hoatzins, cormorants, herons, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys and sloths. The guide watches for giant river otters (nearly 2 meters long and endangered), and the largest caimans on record, over 4 meters. The ziplining and elevated walkways happen during the jungle hikes between these boat sections, letting you move through the canopy before returning to ground level for wildlife observation.
Small groups mean you travel with a personalized guide rather than in a crowd, and the tour emphasizes sustainable practices with information about the local ecosystem woven through the days. Private room, all meals, rain boots and the vehicle transport are included. You'll need to arrange your own way to the meeting point, though public transportation options are available nearby.

Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 25 years); Child (6 to 12 years); Infant (2 to 5 years).
What wildlife will I actually see at Lake Sandoval?
Lake Sandoval is home to giant river otters, caimans over 4 meters long, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, sloths, herons, eagles and cormorants. The boat ride gives you time to watch for these species in their natural habitat, though sightings depend on the time of day and season.
How much walking is involved on day two?
After the boat ride to Lake Sandoval, you'll walk 3 kilometers (about 2 miles) inland to reach the rowing boats on the lake itself. The jungle hikes with ziplining and elevated walkways happen during the day's movement between sections, so expect steady activity rather than a single long trek.
What's included in the lodge stay?
Your private room at Coco House lodge overlooks the Tambopata River. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided each day, along with rain boots for the jungle and all transport by air-conditioned vehicle during the tour.
Is the ziplining difficult or dangerous?

The ziplining and elevated walkways are part of the guided jungle hikes, so your guide will explain the equipment and technique before you use it. The activity is designed as part of the immersive rainforest experience rather than an extreme sport.
