Step-by-step itinerary
Boat expedition and wildlife watching
- Meet and receive tour briefing
- Board roofed boat and learn about rivers
- Observe sloths in their habitat
- Photo stop at second largest bridge
- Boat trip along Tambopata River spotting wildlife
- Enjoy Amazon sunset and take photos
- Return to city by car
The experience
The tour runs about five hours from pickup to return. You meet your bilingual guide in the city, then board a roofed boat with car seats (built to handle both rain and sun), and head out to the Tambopata River. The first sector is a sloth zone where the guide points out animals high in the canopy. The odds of spotting up to ten sloths here are strong. You pass under Peru's second-largest bridge from the boat, a quiet photo stop, then move into the main wildlife stretch of the river where turtles, monkeys, tropical birds, alligators and herons work the banks.
The sunset is the centerpiece. As the light turns, you drift along the river watching for capybaras and white alligators that emerge at dusk, and the guide explains the flora and fauna of the Tambopata National Reserve while you photograph the colors. After the light fades, you return to the city by car, the boat ride finished.
