- Visit clay wall for parrots and macaws
- Search for sloths along riverbank

The experience
The clay wall at Collpa de Parrotes is where the parrots and macaws come each morning. Your guide will teach you to tell the species apart through binoculars as the flocks arrive: macaws, parakeets, and smaller parrots all feeding on the mineral-rich clay. The boat ride to get there is quiet and slow, built to avoid startling the birds, and the guide explains the importance of Tambopata's culture and its connection to the neighboring region as you travel.
On the return journey, the binoculars stay in your hands. You'll scan the riverbanks of the mother river of god for sloths, which are found on 95% of these trips. The boat moves along the water's edge where capybaras and caimans also appear, and the guide points out what to look for: the slow movement in the trees, the shape that does not match the branches. This is not a passive ride. You are actively searching.
Roundtrip transportation from the city is included, along with entry to the reserve and an air-conditioned vehicle. The tour runs 4 hours total, which leaves the rest of your day free for other activities in the region. Children from age 3 are welcome. Bring water and wear layers, as the early morning on the water is cool and the midday sun is direct.
