Step-by-step itinerary
Embera village visit and waterfall hike
- Travel from Panama City to Embera village
- Learn traditional dances and handicrafts
- Discover materials and community lifestyle
- Enjoy included lunch
- Hike to nearby waterfall
- Swim at the waterfall
The experience
The day starts with a pickup from your Panama City hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your private guide speaks English or Spanish and drives you into Chagres National Park, where the Embera village sits along the water. Once there, you watch traditional dances performed by community members and see artisans at work on the handicrafts they sell: learning which local materials go into each piece and how the techniques have been passed down. This is not a museum visit. You're standing in the village itself, watching the work happen.
Lunch comes next: a light meal of tilapia fish or chicken served with fried plantains or yuca, eaten in the village. After eating, your guide leads you on a hike through the jungle to a waterfall a short distance away. You swim in the pool beneath it before heading back to the vehicle for the return to Panama City. The whole outing runs between five and seven hours from start to finish.
The vehicle is equipped with WiFi and bottled water for the drive. Seasonal fresh fruit is provided on board. Your guide handles all the logistics of entry and transport. You bring swimwear and a towel.
