itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Explore Islamabad's top attractions

  • Visit Faisal Mosque
  • See Pakistan Monument
  • Tour Lok Virsa Museum
  • Relax at Rawal Lake
  • Shop at Jinnah Super Market
  • Explore Saidpur Village
  • Enjoy views at Damane-e-koh
  • Shop at Centaurus Mall
  • Visit local authentic market
  • Walk ancient route near Shah Allah Ditta

I still remember the first thing that hit me—those sharp white lines of Faisal Mosque against the Margalla Hills. We’d barely left the car when our guide, Bilal, grinned and handed me a scarf (I’d forgotten mine). The marble felt cool under my feet, even though it was already warming up outside. I tried to take in the size of it all—so many people moving quietly, sunlight bouncing off every angle. Bilal told us about the Turkish architect; I honestly didn’t expect to care about design, but something about that place just made you want to stand still for a minute.

The day trip through Islamabad kept surprising me. At the Pakistan Monument, families were everywhere—kids running around while their parents took photos beneath those giant petals. There was this faint smell of street corn from a vendor nearby (I should’ve tried some). Lok Virsa Museum was next; it’s packed with colors and old fabrics and music looping from hidden speakers. You get this sense that every corner of Pakistan has its own story. And then Rawal Lake—just birds and water and a breeze that finally cooled things down.

Saidpur Village felt like stepping sideways in time. We wandered narrow lanes past crumbling walls painted in faded blues and greens. An old man waved at us from his tea stall—I tried to say thank you in Urdu, but he just laughed and poured me more chai. Later we stopped at Jinnah Super Market for snacks (the samosas were spicy enough to make my eyes water), then somehow ended up at Centaurus Mall where everything is glassy and new again. The contrast is wild—you go from ancient caves at Shah Allah Ditta to neon-lit shops in one afternoon.

I’m still not sure what I liked best—the views from Daman-e-Koh as the sun started dipping or just watching people bargain over mangoes in Lake View Park’s market stalls. This Islamabad city tour covers so much ground (literally), but it never felt rushed thanks to Bilal’s stories and those little moments you don’t see coming. I keep thinking about that marble under my feet, honestly.
