The experience

The day starts at the Amouage Factory and Visitors' Centre, where you see the entire process of luxury perfume making, from raw material selection through blending to bottling. Skilled artisans work at each stage, and the factory itself tells the story of how this house, founded in 1983 as "The Gift of Kings," transformed Arabian perfumery by mixing modern technique with traditional craft. After the factory, you move through Nizwa Souk, the marketplace in the town center, where livestock auctions, date vendors, handicrafts and silverware fill the morning hours.

Nizwa Fort sits above an underground stream and took 12 years to build, completed in the 1650s by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya'rubi. It served as the administrative hub for Imams and Walis and defended the town's strategic location and wealth. The fort is Oman's most popular national monument, and entry is separate from the tour price. From there, the route climbs to Jebel Akhdar, part of the Al Hajar Mountains in the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate. The Saiq Plateau sits at 2,000 meters. The peak itself reaches 2,980 meters. The panoramic views stretch across untamed landscape and deep valleys, and the light at daybreak or sunset reshapes the scene entirely.

Birkat Al Mouz, a village on the route, shows the traditional mud brick houses and ancient falaj irrigation system that define Omani heritage, with date palm plantations filling the valleys. The tour runs nine hours total and includes lunch (except during Ramadan), bottled water, snacks and an air-conditioned vehicle. Children from age 4 are welcome. A live guide in English or Arabic leads the stops and explains what you are seeing.
