The experience
You arrive in Tromsø with a free evening and no plan to fill it. This activity picks you up from your hotel, drives you out to the reindeer herds, and puts you on a sled behind a lead animal while others follow in a long row. Two of you share one sled. The ride lasts around 30 minutes if snow conditions hold. The Arctic changes fast, and the operator reserves the right to shorten or cancel the sled portion if weather turns. Everything else (the cultural part, the meal, the drive back) happens regardless.
Once you're off the sled, you move indoors to the warm part of the evening. A guide walks you through Sámi culture using the real thing: handmade artifacts still in use, not museum pieces. You hear traditional Sámi singing and taste food the culture actually eats. Beverages come with the meal. The whole outing runs 4 to 5 hours from pickup to return.
Reindeer are trained for this work, but they remain animals. The operator asks that everyone follow instructions closely for their own safety and the animals'. Infants and small children can come along in a pram or stroller. Dress for Arctic night: the activity runs in all weather, and conditions change without warning.

Is this one for you?The sled ride itself is a 30-minute activity dependent on snow, and the Arctic weather can shift fast. If conditions don't allow it, you get a partial refund but the cultural evening and meal go ahead. Come if you're willing to dress for the cold and follow the guide's instructions around the animals. The reindeer are trained, but their behavior can be unpredictable.
