The experience
You're dropped at the Belfast Cruise Terminal with a few hours before your ship sails. Your driver-guide meets you there and you head north through County Antrim's rolling farmland toward the coast. The drive itself is part of the day: the Causeway Coastal route between Ballycastle and Dunluce is rated as one of the world's top five great road journeys, and your guide stops wherever the view pulls you. A scenic beach at the very tip of Ireland, a viewpoint over the rope bridge, the ruins of Dunluce Castle perched on the cliffs.
Giant's Causeway is the centerpiece, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the only one in Ireland. The hexagonal basalt columns rise from the shore in a formation so geometric it was once called the 8th wonder of the world. You can walk over the ancient stones, photograph them from every angle, and spend as long as you want there. The visitor's centre requires a pre-booked ticket, but your guide can show you the free entrance if you prefer to skip it. Lunch happens at the Causeway Hotel, right beside the site, at your own pace and your own expense. On the way back, you stop at Old Bushmills Distillery, operating since 1608 and the oldest working distillery in Ireland. The tasting room is there if whiskey interests you.
The Dark Hedges come near the end of the day: two centuries of trees planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century, now famous as the King's Road from Game of Thrones Season 2. Because the tour is private and exclusively for your group, you control what happens. Linger longer at the places you love, skip what you don't need, and tell your guide if there's somewhere special you want to include. You're back at the terminal or your hotel in time for your ship's departure.

Top questions
Can I cross the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge on this tour?
Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge is included as a stop, and crossing depends on the time you have on shore and whether the bridge is open: weather or repairs sometimes close it. If you want to cross, you'll need to pre-book your ticket in advance and let the operator know your approximate arrival time so they can coordinate. If crossing doesn't fit your schedule or the bridge is closed, your guide stops at the viewing point for photos instead. A one-mile walk from the car park leads to the bridge, which may be difficult if you have mobility issues, small children, or a stroller that can't handle unpaved paths.
What is the Giant's Causeway actually like when you get there?
Giant's Causeway is a natural formation of thousands of hexagonal basalt columns rising from the shore, created by ancient lava flows. You walk over and around the stones at your own pace, photograph them, and explore the myths and legends of the site. Entry to the visitor's centre requires a pre-booked ticket, but your guide can show you a free entrance if you prefer to skip the centre and spend your time on the stones themselves.
How many people can fit in the van, and does the group size change the experience?
The Mercedes-Benz V-Class seats up to seven passengers, and you book for either one to four people or five to seven people. Because the tour is private to your group alone, the size doesn't change what you see or do: only how much space each person has and how the cost is split among you.
What happens if I want to visit Old Bushmills Distillery but skip somewhere else?
Because the tour is private, you control the itinerary. Tell your guide what you want to include and what you'd rather skip, and they'll arrange it. Old Bushmills Distillery has been making whiskey since 1608 and has a tasting room on site, but whether you visit, how long you stay, or what you do there is entirely your choice.
How much time do I actually spend at Giant's Causeway and the Dark Hedges?
The tour runs eight to nine hours total from pickup to drop-off, but the exact time at each stop is yours to decide. You can spend an hour climbing over the stones at Giant's Causeway or twenty minutes. You can linger at the Dark Hedges or move on. Your guide follows your pace, not a fixed schedule.
