What’s included

Your day includes pickup from your hotel in Belfast, bottled water throughout the trip, WiFi and USB ports onboard an air-conditioned vehicle for comfort between stops — plus visits to every site listed: Giant’s Causeway itself, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (if you’re up for it), Ballintoy Harbour for lunch breaks (lunch not included), Dunluce Castle ruins, Old Bushmills Distillery grounds with time to browse or taste if you like — all led by a local guide who keeps things lively until drop-off back in Belfast.

We were rolling out of Belfast before I’d finished my coffee, windows fogged from the early chill. Our driver — Paul, who somehow knew every shortcut and story — pointed out where the city faded into green fields. It wasn’t long before we hit the first stop: the Dark Hedges. I’d seen photos but didn’t expect how quiet it felt under those twisted branches, just a few crows flapping overhead. Someone in our group tried to recreate a Game of Thrones pose (badly), which got us all laughing.

The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge was next. Honestly, my legs went a bit wobbly when I saw how high it really was above the waves. The wind whipped up as we crossed — you could taste salt on your lips and hear nothing but water smashing below. Paul teased me for hesitating (“You’ll regret it if you don’t!”) so I went for it. On the other side, everything smelled like grass and seaweed, and there was this weird calm after all that adrenaline.

Lunch was in Ballintoy Harbour — tiny fishing boats rocking in their moorings, gulls everywhere, someone frying chips nearby (I swear that smell follows you). Then came the main event: Giant’s Causeway. The basalt columns look almost fake up close, like someone stacked them on purpose. Kids were hopping from stone to stone; I just sat down for a minute and let the wind sting my face. There’s something about that place — can’t quite explain it.

We squeezed in Dunluce Castle too (wild cliffs, half-ruined walls), then ended at Old Bushmills Distillery where the air smelled sweet and sharp from the whiskey barrels. Tried a sip — not usually my thing but it felt right there. We piled back into the van tired and muddy but kind of giddy, swapping photos over free WiFi as Belfast lights came back into view. Still thinking about that view from the bridge.
