The experience

The coach leaves Belfast and heads north along the Antrim Coast Road, a stretch voted among the world's five best road trips. Your first stop is Carrickfergus Castle, one of Ireland's best-preserved medieval fortresses, where you'll have time for photos before moving on. The route then takes you through Carnlough Harbour and a Game of Thrones filming location in Cushendun, a small village that doubles as a comfort stop. You'll pass the viewing point for Carrick-a-Rede Ropebridge, a rope bridge strung between sea cliffs, before stopping for lunch at The Fullerton Arms pub in Ballintoy.

After lunch, the tour reaches Old Bushmills Distillery, the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery in Ireland. You'll have time to visit the gift shop and take photographs. The distillery itself is not included, but the stop gives you the chance to see it and pick up a bottle if you want. From there, you walk out onto the Giant's Causeway itself, a UNESCO World Heritage site of volcanic rock columns that rise from the shore. The stones are free to explore. If you want to enter the Visitor Centre for exhibits and facilities, that requires a separate National Trust ticket. The final two stops are Dunluce Castle, a ruined clifftop fortress you'll photograph from a viewing point, and Dark Hedges, a tree-lined avenue made famous by Game of Thrones where you'll walk underneath the branches before heading back to Belfast.
