The experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel in Skopje at 8am. The drive to Niš takes you south into Serbia, and once there a guide leads you through the city's layered history: the Skull Tower (Ćele Kula), a 19th-century Ottoman structure; the Fortress with its Hammam and Bali Bey Mosque; the Lapidarium and Palace; Medinana, a Roman archaeological site; the Main Square with the Liberators Monument; and Thinkers Alley. Lunch happens in a local restaurant in Niš itself, and the guide can direct you to vegetarian options if you need them.
On the return leg, you stop in Vranje for a coffee break. At this point, the two options split. If you booked Skopje-Niš-and-back, you're dropped at your hotel by 6pm. If you chose the Pristina extension, the drive from Niš to Pristina takes two hours, and a second guided tour covers Mother Teresa Cathedral Church, the National Library, St. Savior Church, the Grand Hotel, Mother Teresa Boulevard, Parliament and Government buildings, the Sqenderbeu Monument, the Dua Lipa Mural, the Newborn Monument, and the Women Heroes memorial. You return to Skopje by 8pm. The guide speaks English, Croatian or Serbian throughout, and the vehicle is air-conditioned with a fridge for water bottles.
A few logistics: you'll need a valid passport because the route crosses the Serbia-Kosovo border. Some sites accept cash only, but your guide will explain how to handle that. The itinerary allows time to enter up to three museums, churches or memorials. Entry fees are covered. Children from age 5 are welcome. The day is moderately demanding (it involves long stretches in the car and walking through several sites), so travelers should have a reasonable level of fitness.

What is the Skull Tower and why is it on this tour?

Can I visit Pristina and still get back to Skopje the same day?
Yes. The Pristina option includes the full guided tour of the city and returns you to Skopje by 8pm, making it a single 12-hour day trip from start to finish.
What's included in lunch, and are there vegetarian choices?
Lunch is served in a local restaurant in Niš and is your own cost, but vegetarian meals are widely available in the city. Your guide will help you find options that suit your needs.

How much time do we spend driving versus walking around the sites?
