Step-by-step itinerary
Segway tour to Mt Victoria summit
- Learn to ride Segway
- Explore Devonport seaside village
- Segway to Mt Victoria summit
- Enjoy 360-degree views and history
The experience
You begin with hands-on training before the ride even starts. Your guide spends time teaching you to balance and steer the Segway, and you get to practice until you're comfortable. Then the route winds through the back streets of Devonport's historic village, past restored Victorian villas, along beaches and through parks on the way up to Mt Victoria. The guide narrates as you go: stories about the mountain, the iconic mushroom-shaped rock formations, and the neighbourhood itself.
The payoff is the summit. From the top of Mt Victoria, you get 360-degree views: Auckland City spreads out in one direction, the Hauraki Gulf in another. Your guide points out landmarks and tells you about the location's history. The whole experience runs about two hours, and because groups max out at six people, your guide can answer questions and adjust the pace to match the group.
Devonport itself is a small seaside village with open spaces and a quiet atmosphere: the operator notes it's one of the best locations anywhere for a Segway tour. You'll ride through it as part of the route, so you're seeing the place while you're learning to ride. The tour operates year-round. In summer you can pick from three time slots, and in winter there are two.

Is this one for you?The small group size and built-in instruction mean you're not thrown onto a Segway with strangers and expected to figure it out: your guide teaches you first and stays with the same six people the whole way, so the pace and the attention match what you need to enjoy the ride and the views.

What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's Mt Victoria and why is it the stop on this tour?
Mt Victoria is the highest volcanic cone on Auckland's North Shore. Your guide takes you to the summit by Segway, where you stand at the top and see 360-degree views of Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf, plus learn the mountain's history and geology from someone who knows it.
Do I need to know how to ride a Segway before I book?
No. Your guide teaches you one-to-one before the tour starts, and you have time to practice until you feel steady. Groups stay small, maximum six people, so the guide can work at your pace.
What time of day does the tour run?
In summer you can choose from three scheduled times. In winter there are two. You pick the morning, afternoon or lunchtime slot that fits your day when you book.
What happens if the weather is bad?
