The Experience

You meet your guide at the Off Road Adventures shop in Queenstown, then transfer five minutes to the private adventure park. After a safety briefing and hands-on training, you climb into the buggy and drive. The guide leads you through the terrain — steep pitches that surprise first-timers, creek crossings, tight forest sections — and stops at lookout points where the guide helps you frame photos of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu before you get back to driving. The whole experience runs ninety minutes from start to finish.

What matters here is that you drive the whole thing. The guide navigates the route and calls out the line through each obstacle, but the wheel is yours. Helmets, eye protection and gloves come with the buggy; if the weather turns wet, the operator provides a jacket, pants and gumboots. You need a full driving licence (New Zealand or international) and must be at least 18 to drive; passengers can be as young as four.

Return transfers back to central Queenstown are included, so you don't arrange transport either direction. The operator takes complimentary photos at the lookout stops and you view them on site before you leave.
