The Experience
You're already on the bike when the day really starts. After pickup from your Blenheim or Renwick accommodation, you roll into Vines Village base with a helmet, hi-viz vest, and a map marked with cellar doors, a gin distillery, whiskey and cheese tasting, cafés and restaurants — all within 3 kilometers. The bike is yours for the full day. No schedule. No group waiting. Just you deciding which of the dozen-plus stops to hit and how long to linger over a glass.
The self-guided wine tour in Marlborough works because the region is compact enough to cover on two wheels without burning out, and the wineries are clustered close enough that you're never lost between tastings. If the bike breaks down, they'll deliver a fresh one. If you load up on bottles, they'll collect them free and hold them until pickup — so you're not hauling wine on the handlebars for the next three hours. Winter (June through August) brings rain, but that's when the van support kicks in: they'll meet you at two points on the trail with umbrellas and easy walking access to the same stops, so bad weather doesn't mean canceling.
The map comes with their recommendations — which cellar doors are worth the stop, where to eat lunch without losing the afternoon, which cycle trails loop back without backtracking. Tandems, e-bikes, child tagalong bikes and trailers are available as paid upgrades if you're traveling with someone else or want electric assist. You need to be 18 to taste, and bring ID if you're between 18 and 25. Everything else — the bike, helmet, vest, lock, basket, and the ride back to your accommodation — is included in the day rate.
