Step-by-step itinerary

Winery tour and wine tasting

  • Tour vineyard and winery
  • Visit Home Block vineyard
  • See winemaking facility
  • Taste four premium wines

The Experience

Home Block is Central Otago's oldest vineyard, and the tour starts there before moving into the winemaking facility for a behind-the-scenes look at how Gibbston Valley makes some of the region's best Pinot Noirs. You'll see the equipment and process firsthand, not just hear about it from a distance. Then you step into New Zealand's largest wine cave — a physical space that changes how the tasting lands, since the temperature and setting are part of what you're tasting into.

Four wines come with the tour, all handcrafted by the winery and poured in the cave itself. The 45 minutes covers the walk, the winemaking explanation and the tasting, so it's a complete arc without feeling rushed. A live guide leads the whole thing and speaks English, so you get context as you move through each stop instead of reading placards alone.

The tour is not open to anyone under 16. If you're traveling with younger family members, Gibbston Valley runs a separate Cave Tour that works for that group. All surfaces and areas are wheelchair accessible, so mobility is not a constraint here.
