The experience

Day one starts with a self-drive or shuttle arrival at the farm by 5:30pm, where you can join a hosted BBQ and 4WD tour or grab a meal at a local winery or pub. You'll stay the first night in the historic farm Cookhouse in either twin share or a bunk room, then a 20-minute 4WD ride takes you to the trailhead on day two. The first hike covers 11km over 4 to 6 hours with 589 metres of elevation gain. A lunch shelter with hot water and kettle sits halfway. Your luggage waits at Valley Camp when you arrive, where you sleep in shared bunk rooms with privacy curtains.

Day two is a 9km hike through protected wilderness for 3.5 to 4 hours, gaining 590 metres, with another lunch shelter at the halfway point. The Bush Hut holds your bags again when you get there. Day three is the easiest stretch: a 2 to 3 hour walk over 9.5km of farmland with 396 metres of elevation gain back to the car park, departing by 1pm. Throughout, Shaun and Haley stay in radio contact with each group, send evening weather updates, and can arrange transport to the next camp if anyone feels unwell. Hot showers at each hut are a genuine relief after a day on the trail.

The track suits those with medium fitness and capability on uneven terrain. Accommodation includes comfortable bunk beds with lower fitted sheet and pillow. Bring your own sleeping bag and towel or hire them on site. You'll need to bring your own meals, snacks and drinks, though gas cooking and kitchen facilities are available at the farm, and cooler bins travel with your luggage each day.
