The experience
The trek starts with a one-hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, where the real walking begins. Day one climbs steeply to Ulleri (2,050m) through sub-tropical forests and across the Bhurungdi Khola river, ascending thousands of steps that test stamina but take 5–6 hours total. You sleep in a teahouse in Ulleri, sharing accommodation with other trekkers.
Day two is a gentler 4–5 hour walk to Ghorepani (2,750m), a mountain village with shops selling local crafts and panoramic views of Annapurna South and Nilgiri. The real payoff comes on day three: an early morning climb along a steep trail to Poon Hill (3,210m) to watch the sun rise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The viewpoint also frames Mustang, Pokhara and more than 20 of the highest mountains in the region. After photographs and tea, you trek down through rhododendron forests, passing waterfalls, to Tadapani (2,700m) for the night: 5–6 hours of walking.
The final day descends through dense rhododendron forest (spectacular when in bloom) and cherry blossoms depending on season, then enters Ghandruk, a Gurung village with stone houses where you can visit the Gurung Museum to learn about local culture. After lunch, a one-hour walk brings you to Kimche, where a jeep returns you to Pokhara. Your guide carries a medical kit throughout, and you receive a trekking certificate and souvenir t-shirt at the end.
