The experience
How do you get to the trailhead without a car or a rental? The trek starts with private transportation from Pokhara, so you don't arrange a separate ride or navigate to the starting point yourself. Your licensed mountain guide meets you and leads the entire route, providing information about the terrain, the culture and the people you pass along the way. The trek moves through dense lower Himalayan evergreen forests (the landscape the Annapurna Area is known for), and brings you to Ghandruk, a traditional village in the foothills where you'll stay overnight in a tea house.
The three days unfold at a trekking pace, with accommodation arranged in tea houses throughout so you're not carrying a tent or managing a camp. Permits and all entry fees are included, which means no stops at offices or checkpoints to sort out paperwork. Your guide handles the logistics. You handle the walking. The route is built around what's actually walkable in three days from Pokhara, so the distance and the schedule fit together without padding or rushing.
Poon Hill itself is the high point of the trek: a viewpoint in the Annapurna range where the Himalayan views open up. The trek reaches it on the final day, and the guide's knowledge of the terrain and the culture makes the walk itself the experience, not just the destination. Children from age five can join, and the guide is available in English, Spanish or Hindi depending on what you speak.
