Step-by-step itinerary
Trek and view Annapurna range
- Ascend to Poon Hill summit
- View Dhaulagiri and Annapurna peaks
- Observe Kali Gandaki Valley and villages
The experience
The trek starts with private transport to the trailhead, then climbs through rhododendron forests and traditional villages to Ghorepani. From there, a pre-dawn walk reaches Poon Hill in time to watch the Annapurna range light up: Annapurna I, II and III, Dhaulagiri Himal at 8,167 meters, Mardi Himal, Manaslu, Nilgiri and Khopra danda all visible in one sweep. The same ridge holds the sunset the evening before, so you get both without backtracking.
A porter carries the heavy load, one for every two trekkers, so you walk with just a day pack. Your female guide handles the route, pacing, and the stops at villages where you eat lunch and dinner cooked fresh. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included, along with TIMS and ACAP permits, hiking poles and a kit bag. From December through February, micro spikes are provided for any icy sections. The walk is steady but not technical. The altitude gain happens gradually over the three days, which is what keeps it manageable for anyone with moderate fitness.
The villages themselves are the walk: Gurung and Magar settlements where the trail passes through daily life, not around it. You are not visiting a museum. You are moving through the landscape people live in. The rhododendrons bloom in spring and paint the forest in color, though the views of the mountains are clear year-round.
