The experience
The rhythm here is built around fishing. Each morning starts with breakfast, then a full day on the water targeting tiger fish, catfish, tilapia and nambwe on catch-and-release. Lunch breaks run between noon and 3 p.m. at the lodge restaurant (at your own cost) to avoid the heat. Late afternoon brings a 1.5-hour boat cruise 1.5 hours before sunset, where you drift past the river's golden light with light snacks and refreshments included. Dinner follows at the lodge.
The lodge sits on the Zambezi itself, so the river is your constant backdrop. A guide handles the boat, provides basic tackle and knows where the fish are holding. You cast, set the hook and work the line. The guide assists but this is your fishing, not a spectator experience. All equipment damage or loss is replaced at your expense, and drinks during fishing time are on your account. The permit and fuel are covered.
Days 2 through 5 follow the same pattern: breakfast, full-day fishing, midday break, sundowner cruise, dinner. Day 1 is arrival: pickup at Katima Mulilo Airport at 6:30 a.m., transfer to the lodge, lunch and settling in, then your first sundowner cruise. Day 6 is departure: breakfast, one final fishing session, then transfer back to the airport. The lodge can accommodate dietary restrictions if you note them at booking.
