The experience
The Kwando River tour runs four full days from the moment your guide picks you up at Katima Mulilo Airport at 6:30 a.m. on day one. You're driven to Namushasha River Lodge, where you settle in and take a walk to get your bearings before embarking on a 1.5-hour sunset boat cruise with light snacks and beverages. Dinner follows at the lodge restaurant.
Days two and three center on fishing. You spend full days on the Kwando River targeting tiger fish and tilapia, with all catches released back into the water. A lunch break runs between noon and 3 p.m. at your own expense (approximately USD 20). Each afternoon brings another complimentary sunset cruise with snacks and drinks included. On day three, you can fish again or swap it for a game drive into Bwabwata National Park to watch wildlife, or visit the cultural heritage centre to learn about local traditions. The sunset cruise that evening is optional. You can also relax at the lodge or by the fireplace instead. On your final morning, you fish one last time before your guide transfers you back to Katima Mulilo Airport.
Your guide speaks English and also drives, so the same person leads you throughout. Accommodation, boat fuel, basic fishing tackle, and the permit are all included. Beverages beyond what's served on the cruises cost extra (approximately USD 5 per drink). Children from age 6 are welcome. Parents must bring a child life vest.
