The experience

The tour starts with a 6:30 a.m. pickup at Katima Mulilo Airport and a transfer to Namushasha River Lodge on the Kwando River. After settling in, you take a 1.5-hour boat cruise before sunset with light snacks and beverages, then dinner at the lodge. The next four days follow the same rhythm: breakfast, a full day of fishing on catch-and-release basis, a lunch break you arrange between noon and 3 p.m. at your own expense, a complimentary sunset cruise with snacks, and dinner at the restaurant.

On days three, four and five, you choose how to spend your time. You can fish again, or swap it for a game drive to spot wildlife in Bwabwata National Park, a visit to the cultural heritage centre to learn about local traditions, or simply rest on the lodge deck. The sunset cruises remain complimentary and optional. You can join the boat or stay at the lodge and order from the bar. Lunch stays at your own cost each day. On your final morning, you have time for one last fishing trip before the guide transfers you back to Katima Mulilo Airport.

All fishing equipment, boat fuel and permits are included. Fishing is strictly catch-and-release to protect the river. Your guide speaks English and handles both the driving and the fishing instruction. Damaged or lost tackle is replaced at your expense. Beverages on the boat are complimentary, but drinks at the restaurant bar are separate charges.

What happens on the sunset cruises?

Complimentary boat cruises depart 1.5 hours before sunset each evening and last about an hour. Light snacks and beverages are served on board. The cruises are optional, so you can skip them to rest or dine elsewhere.
