The blue-painted doors and whitewashed walls give it a look unlike anywhere else in Morocco, and the Atlantic wind that shaped the city is why surfers come from across the world.

Free time in the medina lets you walk the straight streets at your own pace, browse the handicraft shops, and watch artisans carving Thuya wood. The Skala Fortress sits at the edge of the old port, its bronze cannons facing the ocean. Below it, the fish market is working: vendors call out the catch, and the smell of fresh seafood fills the air. Lunch happens here. The women's cooperative where argan oil is made is a working space, not a shop.
