Four hours inside the workshops where Marrakech's artisans actually work

A four-hour shopping tour of Marrakech's souks led by a local English-speaking guide, visiting blacksmith workshops, leather tanneries, jewelers, carpet weavers and woodworkers organized by craft. The guide arranges hotel delivery on purchases and provides bottled water and Moroccan mint tea; the tour is wheelchair accessible and suitable for all fitness levels.

4h

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Marrakech Souks and Workshops

  • Discover hidden craftsmen and artisans
  • Visit blacksmith street workshops
  • See medieval Berber tanneries
  • Explore wood engraving workshops
  • Visit silver Berber jewellery makers
  • Meet women weaving Berber carpets
  • Try knotting on a loom
  • View handmade clothing and caftans

The Experience

The tour starts at Jemaa el-Fna and moves through the souk's hidden workshops where artisans work by specialty. You stop at blacksmith shops making wrought iron, bronze and pewter—lamps, lanterns and filigree work—then move into the leather quarter where tanners make slippers, sandals and traditional shoes in different colors and designs. The smell of spruce, cedar and walnut draws you into woodworking spaces where craftspeople engrave ebony and mother-of-pearl boxes and decorative pieces.

Silver Berber jewelry is a centerpiece: you visit a jeweler's workshop where beads, coral, amber and precious stones are combined with silver into necklaces and earrings you can try. The tour includes a stop at a women's cooperative where Berber carpets are woven on looms—you can sit close to one of the weavers and try a few knots yourself, learning a tradition passed from mother to daughter. Handmade clothing like caftans, jellabas and tunics are on display in the same spaces.

Your guide handles the logistics: purchases are delivered free to your hotel or riad, and carpets ship door to door. Bottled water and Moroccan mint tea are provided throughout the four hours. The guide speaks English and stays flexible to your pace and interests as you move through each workshop.
