Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Marrakech Medina and Souks

  • Meet guide at Cafe Argana
  • Walk through vibrant alleys and artisanal enclaves
  • Visit colorful Spice Square
  • Explore 12th-century Blacksmith Souk
  • Discover secret gems in Marrakech Medina

The Experience

You meet your guide at Café Argana in the main square, where they'll brief you on the layout and what to expect. From there, the route moves into the labyrinthine streets of the Medina—past the Spice Square with its centuries of history, through the 12th-century Blacksmith Souk where metalworkers still hammer and shape by hand, and into the artisanal enclaves where you'll find textiles, pottery and other handmade pieces. The guide knows which stalls have what and how to navigate the haggling; your job is to decide what you want.

The tour is built around shopping, not sightseeing. Your guide will help you select items—Argan oil, spices, Berber rugs, leather goods, metalwork—and handle the back-and-forth with vendors. Because it's private, the pace and stops are yours: linger in a souk that catches your eye, skip one that doesn't, spend time in the workshops where you can watch craftspeople at work. The guide caters to what your group wants to see and buy, not a fixed itinerary.

Any purchases you make get delivered free to your hotel, so you don't carry them through the rest of the Medina. You'll need to budget for entrance fees to any historical monuments you want to enter—the guide will tell you which ones are worth it and what they cost in Dirhams. The tour works for families with children from age 4 onward, and all areas of the Medina are wheelchair accessible if you need that.

What’s included

  • Licensed local guide in your choice of English, Spanish, French or Arabic.
  • free hotel delivery of any purchases you make.
  • free time to explore at your own pace within the tour window.

Is this one for you?Book the Private VIP Shopping Tour if you want transport included and a longer window to explore; the Private Souks Shopping Tour works if you're already in the Medina or prefer to navigate there yourself and want a shorter, focused route through the main souks. Both are private, so the guide's attention stays on your group.

Top questions

What's actually in the Spice Square, and is it just for tourists?

The Spice Square is a working marketplace steeped in centuries of history, where vendors sell spices, dried goods and other staples to locals and visitors alike. Your guide will walk you through the stalls and explain what's being sold and how to judge quality—it's not a staged attraction, but a real part of how the Medina functions.

Can I haggle with the shopkeepers, or does the guide do all the negotiating?

Your guide handles the negotiation and assists you in selecting items, so you're not left to figure out prices on your own. The guide knows the vendors and the fair price for what you're buying, which takes the guesswork out of haggling.

Do I have to buy things, or can I just look around?

The tour is a shopping tour, so browsing and learning about the crafts is part of it, but you're not obligated to purchase anything. Your guide will show you what's available and help if you decide to buy; if you'd rather just explore without spending, that's fine too.

How long does the tour actually take, and can I cut it short if I'm tired?

The tour runs 3 to 5 hours depending on how much time you spend in each souk and how many stops you make. Because it's private, you can adjust the pace—if you want to leave early, your guide can arrange that, though the full tour gives you time to see the main souks and hidden corners.

What happens to things I buy—do I have to carry them all day?

Any purchases are delivered free to your hotel, so you don't have to carry bags through the narrow streets for the rest of the tour. You can shop without worrying about luggage.

Is the guide a real local, and what languages do they speak?

Your guide is a licensed local guide who speaks English, Spanish, French or Arabic—you choose the language when you book. They know the Medina inside out and can answer questions about the crafts, the history and the vendors you meet.
