The experience

You get picked up from your accommodation and driven to the starting point near Lalla Takerkoust Lake. After a safety briefing and gear check (helmet, motocross glasses, and a charlotte to keep dust out of your hair), you mount the quad and head out with a guide who knows the terrain. The route crosses eucalyptus forests, passes through Berber villages, and cuts across open country toward the Agafay Desert. You'll ride at your own pace, stopping to take in views of the snow-capped High Atlas peaks and the lake itself.

Midway through, you reach a high plateau where the landscape opens up. The guide brings you to a traditional Berber tent set up in the desert, where you sit down for a break with mint tea and a moment to catch your breath. This is where the ride shifts from pure adrenaline to something quieter: the chance to stand still and look at what you've crossed. You can photograph the views, ask the guide about the villages you passed, or just sit with the tea and the quiet.

The ride takes about 2 hours of actual quad time, though the whole outing runs closer to 3.5 hours with pickup, the safety setup and the tea break. An air-conditioned vehicle brings you back to your hotel when it's done. You choose at checkout whether you want the quad ride alone, or add a traditional meal to the package, and whether you ride a two-seater buggy instead of a standard quad.
