The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Marrakech hotel and a drive to the desert. You ride a camel through a broad gorge of Molay Ibrahim, moving through the landscape at the pace of the animal rather than a vehicle. The Agafay Desert spreads around you—not sand dunes but rocky terrain with views toward the Atlas Mountains and Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak.

From the desert you head into the mountains to a Berber family home in Aroumd village, where you pause for coffee or tea. This is not a tourist setup but an actual family home, and the stop gives you a real sense of how people live in these valleys. After tea, you hike to Ait Souka, an isolated village where you sit down to a meal cooked and shared by the family. The route passes terraced gardens climbing steep hillsides, waterfalls, and an alpine Kasbah. A guide who speaks English, Spanish, French or Arabic walks with you throughout, explaining what you are seeing and translating at the family homes.

Transport from your hotel is included, as is the camel ride and all guide services. You bring your own lunch or arrange one separately for 7 euros. The day suits all fitness levels, though the hike to Ait Souka and the camel ride are the physical core of it. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller if needed.

Top questions

What is the camel ride actually like on this tour?

You ride a camel through the broad gorge of Molay Ibrahim in Agafay Desert, moving across rocky terrain with views of the Atlas Mountains. The ride is part of the day's journey, not a short loop—it carries you from the desert toward the mountains where the Berber villages are.

Do I eat with the Berber family or just visit their home?

You share a meal cooked and served by the family in their home in Ait Souka village. The meal is part of the experience, not a separate transaction, and it happens after you hike there from Aroumd.

Can young children do this tour, or is it too physical?

Children from age 6 are welcome. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, and the tour is suitable for all fitness levels, so the physical demands are not a barrier to booking.

What's included in the price, and what do I need to pay extra for?

The tour includes hotel pickup and return, guide services, camel ride, coffee or tea at the Berber home, and transport. Lunch is optional and costs 7 euros if you want it; otherwise you bring your own food.

What language does the guide speak?

Your guide speaks English, Spanish, French or Arabic, depending on availability and your preference at booking.
