Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Marrakech Medina and Landmarks

  • Visit Jemaa el-Fna Square
  • Explore vibrant Marrakech Souks
  • Stop at ancient Foundouk
  • Pass through Bab Agnaou gate
  • Visit Bahia Palace
  • Tour Ben Youssef Madrasa

The Experience

The tour starts at Jemaa el-Fna, the UNESCO-listed square at the heart of Marrakech, where your guide walks you through the history and daily rhythms of the place—the spice merchants, street performers, musicians and juice stalls that make it the city's living center. From there you move into the Medina's maze of souks, where local artisans work leather, textiles, pottery and metalwork in the open. You'll stop at a restored foundouk, one of the old merchant inns built around a central courtyard that once hosted traveling traders and their goods, to see how the commercial life of the Medina still turns.

The route then takes you to Bahia Palace, passing through Bab Agnaou, the 12th-century monumental gate built under the Almohad dynasty with carved stone arches and floral motifs. Skip-the-line access means you walk straight into the palace without waiting at the door. Next comes Ben Youssef Madrasa, one of North Africa's largest Quranic schools, rebuilt in the 16th century and famous for its zellige tiles, carved cedar and stucco work. The guide explains how hundreds of students once studied Quranic law and religious sciences here, and what the intricate decoration meant to the craftsmen who made it.

You'll need comfortable walking shoes and a bottle of water, especially if you're going between March and September when temperatures climb. The guide may receive commissions if you buy something in the shops during the tour—standard practice in the souks. WhatsApp contact beforehand helps with any last-minute details about meeting time or route changes.
