The experience

The trek starts in the evening when you mount a camel for a 1 hour 15 minute ride out into the golden dunes. You'll reach the luxury camp as the sun drops toward the horizon, then walk to the highest dunes to photograph the sunset before it fades. The sky clears after dark, when it does, the stars come out with an intensity that photographs rarely capture.

Dinner happens around a campfire with traditional Berber drum music filling the desert air. You'll sleep in a private nomad tent inside the camp, and in the morning the sky lightens enough to shoot sunrise from the same high dunes you climbed the evening before. After breakfast, the return camel ride takes you back to your meeting point in Merzouga.

A live guide in English, Spanish or French travels with the group. The camp provides the tent, the dinner, the music and the breakfast. You bring layers for the temperature drop after sunset and a camera for the light that only happens twice a day in the desert.

What’s included

  • a private nomad tent for the night.
