You’ll zip across rocky trails from Lake Takerkoust to Agafay’s desert edge in a small group buggy tour—no crowds, just raw scenery and real moments like sipping mint tea in a Berber tent or catching that early morning sun over still water. It’s an easy escape from Marrakech if you want something more personal than big bus tours.
The morning air was cool as we hopped into the minibus outside our riad—just enough chill to wake you up, but not cold. The drive out of Marrakech took about 45 minutes, and I watched the city fade into open land dotted with olive trees and the odd roadside stall selling oranges. Our driver chatted quietly with a local radio station humming in the background. By the time we reached the meeting spot near Lake Takerkoust, the sun had started warming things up.
Our guide, Youssef, greeted us with a grin and handed out helmets and goggles. He ran through how to handle the buggy—nothing too complicated, but he made sure we got it right. I could smell dust already in the air as engines fired up. We set off slowly at first, following Youssef’s lead along rocky tracks that wound past little farms and dry riverbeds. Every so often, you’d catch a glimpse of blue water from the lake peeking through the hills.
After maybe an hour of bouncing over trails (my arms felt it!), we pulled up at a low Berber tent pitched right on the edge of the Agafay Desert. Mint tea was waiting for us inside—sweet and hot, poured high into glasses by an older man who barely spoke but smiled a lot. There was this quiet out there: just wind and distant goat bells. On our way back, we stopped again by Lake Lalla Takerkoust for photos—the light was perfect on the water, almost glassy. I snapped a few shots before dusting off my shoes and climbing back in for the ride home.
Yes! The guide explains everything clearly before you start, and groups are kept small so everyone can go at their own pace—no experience needed.
Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dusty, closed shoes (no sandals), and bring sunscreen—it gets sunny fast out there.
You’ll be served traditional mint tea during our break in a Berber tent. If you want extra snacks or water, best to bring some along.
If you're solo or a couple, you'll join 4-5 others max; bigger groups get their own private guide for a more tailored experience.
Your hotel pickup and drop-off are covered. We provide helmets and goggles for safety (and dust!). There’s also a stop for mint tea in a Berber tent out in Agafay—just sit back and enjoy it all while we handle the details.
