The Experience
Your pickup happens at 9:00 AM from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. The drive into the High Atlas takes 90 minutes through mountain scenery, with stops to photograph traditional Berber villages and the landscape as you climb. The route passes through the valleys of Tahanaout, Asni, Imlil and Imnan—each one ringed by peaks and terraced farmland that shift as you move deeper into the range.
Once you reach Imlil, you walk through the valley at a gentle pace, taking in views of Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak, before continuing to Armoud. This is where the day changes shape. You arrive at a family Berber home—not a tourist venue, but the actual house where your host family lives. You meet them, learn how they prepare traditional Moroccan mint tea by hand, and watch how the ritual works. Before lunch, you visit a women's argan oil cooperative to see how the oil is made and taste it. The meal itself is a home-cooked tagine with seasonal starters and fresh fruit, served on a terrace that looks out over the Atlas. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the itinerary includes a stop at one of the region's weekly Berber markets on the way back. You return to Marrakech around 5:00 PM and are dropped at your hotel.
The tour is private—just you, your group and your guide—so the pace and the stops are yours to shape. Mineral water is provided during the drive. WiFi is available on board if you need it.

Is this one for you?The full day—roughly 7 hours from pickup to drop-off—is built around the lunch and the family visit, so it works if you have a free afternoon in Marrakech but not if you need to be back by mid-afternoon. The private format means you set the pace through the valleys and the time you spend at the market if you're there on a Tuesday or Saturday.

What is Mount Toubkal and why does it matter on this tour?
Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa at 13,671 feet, and it dominates the views from the Imlil Valley where you walk. You see it from the terrace of the Berber home where you have lunch, and it frames the landscape throughout the day in the High Atlas.
Do I walk a lot on this tour, or is most of it driving?
Most of the day is driving—the 90-minute route into the mountains and the return journey—but you do a gentle walk through the Imlil Valley before arriving at Armoud. The walk is not strenuous; the pace is leisurely and you stop to take in the views.
Is the argan oil cooperative a real working place, or a shop?
The argan oil cooperative is a women's cooperative where the oil is actually made. You see the process and taste the oil as part of the tour, not as a separate shopping stop.
What languages does the guide speak?
The guide is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, French and two additional languages, so you can request the language that suits you when you book.
Will I see a Berber market, and is it included on every tour?
On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the tour includes a stop at one of the region's weekly Berber markets on the return drive to Marrakech. On other days, the market visit does not happen, so the itinerary is slightly different.
