The experience

You arrive at Agadir or Marrakech airport and get picked up for the drive to Taghazout, where the camp becomes your base for the week. Each morning after breakfast, your coach drives you to whichever beach has the best conditions and tide that day: the spot changes constantly. You get a 2-hour lesson in a small group, fitted to whether you're just starting or already riding waves, with the coach staying in the water to give you direct feedback. After lunch (packed fresh at the beach), you're free to paddle out again on your own while the coaches supervise, or rest and watch the ocean.

One day breaks the routine: a 1.5-hour drive north along the coast to Imssouane, a Berber fishing village where the wave runs longer than anywhere else in North Africa. You surf it for 2.5 hours with your coach, then eat fresh fish grilled right in the working port. On the way back, you stop at the sand dunes of Tamri to try sandboarding. On another evening around sunset, you trade the board for a surfskate (a wheeled board that mimics the turning and maneuvers you do on water), and learn the technique at your own pace with protection gear provided.

Accommodation is in a shared dorm or private room at the camp (private rooms cost extra). All meals are cooked daily by local chefs using Moroccan ingredients and recipes. The schedule shifts with the tides and swell, so exact start and end times vary each day. You're 18 or older to book, and the camp welcomes all fitness levels, though it's not suitable if you have cardiovascular concerns.

Is this one for you?The schedule runs on tides and swell, so start times shift each day and you're up early most mornings. Book this if you're ready to wake with the ocean rather than a fixed clock. Small teaching groups mean real progress, not a crowded beach lesson where you're one of twenty.

Top questions

What's the longest wave in North Africa and where do you surf it?

Imssouane, a small Berber fishing village north of Taghazout, has the longest wave in North Africa. On day four of the package, you drive there for a 2.5-hour surf lesson on that wave, then eat fresh fish BBQ lunch in the traditional fishing port.

Do the surf lessons work for someone who's never been on a board?

Yes. The coaches choose the best beach and conditions for your level each day and teach in small groups with one-on-one feedback. All levels learn together, and the instructors are ISA-certified, so they adjust the lesson to where you're starting from.

What happens in the afternoon after the morning surf lesson?

After a 2-hour lesson and lunch at the beach, you can paddle out again and practice on your own while the coaches stay at the beach supervising. You're free to surf as much as you want or take a break. It's your call.

What's included in the 8 days, and what costs extra?

The package includes airport pickup, seven nights at the camp, all meals cooked fresh daily, four full days of surf coaching, the day trip to Imssouane with the fish BBQ, a surfskate lesson, and free use of surf equipment for practice sessions. Private rooms instead of shared dorms cost additional.

How do the tides and swell affect the schedule each day?

The coaches pick the best beach spot based on that day's conditions and tides, so the exact time you leave after breakfast and return to camp changes daily. You'll know the timing the morning of each session.

Is there time to explore Taghazout or meet locals outside the lessons?

Yes. One evening you can visit the local souk (market) in Taghazout, and the trip to Imssouane lets you spend time in a working fishing village. The camp also emphasizes getting to know the local culture and team throughout the week.
