The experience

The tour starts in Casablanca with the Hassan II Mosque, then moves north to Rabat's Royal Palace and Hassan Tower before reaching Chefchaouen, where the entire medina is painted in shades of blue. Day two takes you deeper into Fes, the cultural heart of Morocco, for a guided walk through the UNESCO-listed medina, the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, and the souks. On day three you cross to Volubilis to see the Roman mosaics and architecture, pass through Meknes, and arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara.

The desert itself is the centerpiece: you trek by camel across the dunes of Merzouga and sleep in a traditional camp under the stars. The next morning brings a sunrise over the golden sands before you head to the Todra gorges and then to the Dades Valley, where the rock formations and gorges dominate the landscape. Day five takes you through Ouarzazate and the UNESCO-listed fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, a famous film location, before arriving in Marrakech for two nights exploring the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, Jardin Majorelle, and the Djemaa el-Fna square with its street performers and food stalls. The tour concludes with a return to Casablanca on day seven.

Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French and travels with you the entire week. All transport is private, meals are traditional Moroccan dishes, and accommodations are in locally chosen riads and hotels except for the desert camp night. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or with specialized infant seats.
