The experience

How do you get from the Blue City into the high Rif without a car? This trek answers it: you start in Chefchaouen and walk. Day one takes you through Talassemtane National Park along forest paths with views across the mountains, past ancient junipers and towering cedars, down into the Tissouka Valley and then to Afeska, a traditional Berber village where you sleep in a rural guesthouse and drink local tea made from medicinal plants. The second day is a longer push through dense cedar and pine forests toward the Bridge of God, a natural rock arch, then down to Akchour, another mountain village beside a clear river where you overnight again. On the final day you trek to the Akchour waterfalls, swim in the natural pools if the season allows, and eat lunch before a local taxi carries you back to Chefchaouen in the late afternoon.

A live guide leads the whole three days and speaks English, Spanish, French or Arabic, so you follow the commentary in your own language. The route is moderate to demanding (you need at least a moderate level of fitness), and it is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy. The trek crosses deep gorges and mountain terrain, so the physical demand is real, but the payoff is a landscape most visitors to Morocco never see: fir forests, Barbary macaques, and waterfalls in a national park that stays quiet because few people know to go there.

Pickup from Chefchaouen is included on day one. Accommodation and meals are arranged in the villages (you stay in guesthouses run by local families), and the return transfer by taxi on day three is also included. Tips for the guide are optional. The minimum age is 16.

What’s included

  • Service of a guide for all three days.
