The experience

You arrive in Morocco and are met at the airport or your starting lodge, then driven in a private car to begin the tour. The first day orients you to Casablanca (the Hassan II Mosque, the medina's maze of streets, and the Habous district) before you settle into your accommodation. From there, the route moves north to Rabat and the blue-painted streets of Chefchaouen, then inland to the UNESCO ruins of Volubilis, which spread across green fields with Roman mosaics and administrative buildings still standing from the 1st century. You pass through Meknes, one of Morocco's imperial cities, before reaching Fes for a full day walking the medieval Medina with a local guide: the narrow crooked streets, the Bu Inanya mosque, the leather and pottery quarters where craftsmen use techniques passed down for generations, and the Jewish quarter that shows the two communities' coexistence.

The journey then turns south toward the Sahara, a 7-hour drive through changing landscapes. You stop in Ifrane, known as "Moroccan Switzerland" for its European feel and cedar forests, where you can feed wild monkeys near Azrou. The road descends through the Ziz Valley toward Merzouga, where the dunes begin. In the morning, a 4x4 takes you into the desert to meet nomads, then you ride a camel to a luxury heated camp where you spend the night under the stars, eat Moroccan dinner, and listen to Berber songs around a fire. The next morning you watch the sunrise over the dunes before heading back toward the High Atlas, stopping at Rissani's fossil market, walking the Todra Gorge, and spending a night in the Dades Valley.

The final stretch crosses the Atlas Mountains through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters, with photo stops along the way showing green river valleys and adobe villages. You visit Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO kasbah where Game of Thrones was filmed, then descend to Marrakech. Your last two days are devoted to the city: the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Majorelle Gardens with its blue buildings and exotic plants, and the Jemaa el-Fna square, where snake charmers, healers, and spice merchants fill an open-air theater. On the final day, you have free time before your transfer to Casablanca or Marrakech airport.
