The experience

The day starts at Rijeka Crnojevica, a fishing village on Lake Skadar, then moves to a family winery in a local village where the owner walks you through his vineyard and pours his best wines, brandies and fruit liqueurs alongside local food. From there you'll reach one of the most photographed viewpoints on Lake Skadar: the kind of overlook that lands in travel magazines for its scale and light.

Cetinje, the former royal capital, is a walking tour through its own history. You'll pass the Cetinje Monastery, Cipuri church, Biljarda (the new castle), King Nicola's palace (now a museum), and the Presidential Palace, with your guide explaining the medieval stories woven into each building and street. The town itself reads as an open-air museum, each corner holding a piece of Montenegro's harder, prouder past.

Lunch happens at a honey farm run by a local family whose house dates back two centuries. The host shows you the beehives, tells you about his ancestors and the region's bee-keeping tradition, then serves a traditional Montenegrin meal made from local ingredients. You'll taste his homemade fruit and honey liquors: the kind of thing you don't find outside someone's kitchen. The interior of the house has its own character. It's the kind of space that makes you feel like you've stepped into a private corner of the country.
