Milestii Mici is built around one fact: the underground storage facility holds more wine than any other place on earth. You descend into the galleries to walk past thousands of bottles, see the underground waterfall carved into the limestone, and taste three wines chosen from the collection. After the winery, the tour moves into Transnistria itself. Tiraspol, the capital, sits on the banks of the Dniester River. The city center mixes Soviet-era buildings with newer construction and tree-lined streets. Bendery, the second stop, is older still: its quarters preserve late 19th and early 20th-century architecture, and the Bendery Fortress, the region's most recognizable landmark, dominates the riverbank. The guide walks you through both cities, pointing out the historical and architectural details that define them.
