The Experience

The day runs 12 to 13 hours, starting with hotel pickup in Cancun and transport by air-conditioned vehicle to the park. A guide travels with your group and hands out the park access bracelet before you arrive, so you walk straight in without queuing at the gate. You get a detailed map and can choose your own route through the attractions, though the park suggests starting with water activities in the Plus area—a section with lockers, showers and snorkel gear where you can leave belongings while you explore.

The underground rivers are the centerpiece. At the entrance you receive a waterproof bag to hold anything you don't want to get wet, then swim or wade through the river passages at your own speed. After the river route, natural pools and a cove offer open-water swimming. The Coral Reef Aquarium, Butterfly Garden and Aviary are scattered through the park for wildlife viewing between water stops. A buffet meal at a restaurant of your choice includes a beer, coffee and aguas frescas (fresh fruit drinks) throughout the day.

The México Espectacular show runs at night and is the finale—traditional dances, live music and elaborate costumes move through Mexican history from pre-Hispanic times to the present. Cultural performances like the Papantla Flyers and pre-Hispanic dances happen during the day at scheduled times. Children's World is also included if you're traveling with kids.
