The Experience

The day starts with hotel pickup from Cancun or the Riviera Maya, with timing that depends on your location—contact the operator at least 24 hours before to confirm the exact time and meeting point. You'll receive your park entry wristband on the bus. Once inside Xcaret, the itinerary opens up: swim in the underground river where Mayans once prepared for ceremonial rites, float in the blue river, wade through the mayan river and manatee river, or dive into the inlet and natural pools along the beaches. Life jackets and inner tubes are provided; snorkeling equipment comes with the Xcaret Plus ticket, or you can rent it separately in the park.

Between water activities, the park holds more than 50 experiences spread across its forested grounds. Walk the tropical jungle trail and spot howler monkeys, jaguars, crocodiles, sea turtles and birds in the butterfly pavilion and aviary. Visit the archaeological sites and pre-Hispanic ball game court, tour the Mayan village and the museum of Mexican folk art, and watch rotating performances throughout the day—harp recitals, pre-Hispanic dances, the ritual ceremony of the Voladores (flying men), and a traditional costume show. An interactive map downloads to your phone so you can navigate at your own pace.

When the sun sets, the park transforms for the Xcaret México Espectacular show—a large-scale production of lights, music and dance that tells Mayan history and culture with more than 300 actors on stage. If you booked the Xcaret Plus option, you'll have already eaten lunch at the buffet and had your beer and drinks included; if you chose the basic ticket, food and beverages are available to purchase. Optional paid activities like Snuba (30 minutes instruction plus 30 minutes underwater with a helmet), Sea Trek stingray encounters and the Adrenalina jetboat ride can be booked directly in the park on the day.
