The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Cancun hotel and a drive to Xcaret, a park built into the Mayan jungle where underground rivers, cenotes and the Caribbean meet. Once inside, you move between water zones and land attractions on your own pace — the beach and lagoon, shallow cenotes in Children's World for younger swimmers, natural seawater pools, and the underground rivers that flow through the property. The coral reef aquarium and sea turtle center let you see marine life without leaving the park.

Between water time, the park holds cultural and natural exhibits: the Butterfly Garden and Living Orchid and Bromeliad Museum for plant life; the Aviary and Rainforest Trail for birds and forest canopy; and a Mexican Folk Art Museum, pre-Hispanic Mayan Village with traditional dances, Papantla Flyers ceremony, and the Bridge to Paradise cemetery. Wildlife roams the grounds — jaguars, manatees, flamingos, spider monkeys, bats, deer and tapirs are part of the landscape as you move through. Sun loungers, hammocks and rest areas are scattered throughout, and you get one meal at a park restaurant with unlimited soft drinks.

The Xcaret México Espectacular show runs in the evening and is included; it is a live performance celebrating Mexican traditions and culture. The tour ends with a return drive to your Cancun hotel. You will need to bring your own towel, swimsuit and change of clothes — water shoes are recommended for the cenotes and river areas. A photo of the lead traveler's ID (driver's license or passport) is required before the tour date.
