The experience

The walk starts at Chamán Restaurant in Sayulita, where you meet Santos Hernández (White Deer), a local spiritual guide, and Jair, his co-guide. They welcome you and explain what the experience holds before you set out. From there you walk through jungle, across beaches and over gentle hills toward the four sacred places that anchor Wixárika spiritual life in this area. Each site carries its own meaning within their worldview, and at each one you participate in practices that honor the connection between nature, community, spirituality and life.

Santos and Jair share knowledge about Wixárika history, culture and their relationship with the land and the spirit as you move between sites. This is not a lecture delivered from outside. It is a living tradition explained by people who practice it. The walk was created as a collaboration between Santos and Jair to preserve and transmit Wixárika culture in Sayulita while fostering respectful cultural exchange. You are invited to approach it with openness and sensitivity, recognizing that the Wixárika have their own beliefs and ways of understanding the world.

Hiking canes are provided for the terrain, and a first aid kit travels with the group. The guide speaks English or Spanish depending on your preference. Children are welcome from age seven onward.
