The experience
The boat leaves La Paz at 9 am and sails for roughly ninety minutes to reach the dive sites. You'll descend twice during the day: the timing and location of the second dive depends on conditions and what the first one reveals. Sea lions are the draw here: you'll encounter colonies of them underwater, and if the season aligns, their pups. Beyond that, the reefs and wrecks routinely turn up sea turtles, mobulas, schools of fish, octopuses and nudibranchs. Sharks, dolphins, diving cormorants and giant manta rays show up less often, but the operator knows where to look.
Between dives or after both are done, the boat stops at one of La Paz's beaches for lunch. The meal is local and fresh, with shade, drinks and bottled water provided. You're back in La Paz by 3 or 4 pm. The operator works only with certified divers and keeps group sizes small, no crowded descents, because they want the experience to feel authentic rather than rushed. If you're not certified, a Discover Scuba Diving course is available at an additional cost.
