The experience
If you've always wanted to try scuba diving but never had the chance, a free afternoon in Cancun is the moment. You don't need certification or prior experience: the Discover Scuba program is built for first-timers, and it starts on dry land. At Coconut Divers, a certified PADI instructor walks you through the theory, then takes you into the pool for a hands-on session where you'll practice breathing underwater and get comfortable with the equipment before the ocean. The whole setup is small and personalized, not a big group tour, so you get one-on-one attention and move at your own pace.
Once you're ready, you head into the warm Caribbean for two dives at sites that make the trip worth the time. The Underwater Museum (MUSA) is a one-of-a-kind underwater art gallery with over 500 sculptures scattered across the seafloor. It's surreal and unlike anything else in the region. Manchones Reef is a living coral reef full of fish and marine life, the kind of place that shows you why people come back to diving again and again. Both sites are shallow and manageable for beginners, and your instructor stays with you the whole time.
The activity runs about five hours total, and everything you need is provided: scuba gear, tanks, weights, the instruction itself, and bottles of drinking water between dives. The only thing to arrange separately is a wetsuit rental if you want one, though the Caribbean water is warm enough that many divers skip it. Coconut Divers operates in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and several other languages, so the briefing and instruction happen in whatever works for you. Bad weather can cancel the day, so coordinate with them before you book to confirm the conditions.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian and Dutch.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is the Underwater Museum in Cancun, and what will I see there?
The Underwater Museum (MUSA) is an underwater art gallery with over 500 sculptures placed on the seafloor. You'll dive among statues and installations designed to create an artificial reef while serving as an art installation. It's a unique site you won't find anywhere else.
Do I need to know how to scuba dive already, or is this really for complete beginners?
This is designed for complete beginners with no certification or prior experience required. You'll learn the basics in a pool session before heading to the ocean, so you'll feel confident and ready for the two open-water dives.
How long does the whole experience take, and what's included in the price?
The activity takes about five hours from start to finish. Included are all scuba gear (tanks, weights, regulator, buoyancy control device), instruction from a certified PADI instructor, a theory class, two open-water dives, and drinking water. Wetsuit rental is separate if you want one.
Will I be diving with a large group, or is it a smaller experience?
Coconut Divers keeps groups small and personalized, so you get one-on-one attention from your certified instructor rather than being part of a big tour. This means the pace and teaching style can be tailored to you.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day I book?
The activity can be cancelled due to bad weather, so you'll need to coordinate with Coconut Divers before your dive to confirm conditions are safe. They'll work with you to reschedule if needed.
