The experience
The morning starts with a medical statement at the dock, then you board for two separate dives. The first takes you to MUSA at 27 feet, where submerged sculptures sit on the sand: a working art museum designed for underwater viewing. The second dive moves to Manchones reef at 33 feet, where the water fills with schooling fish and live coral. Both sites sit in Cancun's clear water, and the boat returns to dock by early afternoon.
All SCUBA gear comes with you: BCD, regulator, mask, fins, tanks and weights, plus a wetsuit. You need a valid certification card (plastic, digital or photo) to dive. The operator notes that MUSA is mostly designed for beginners, so the depth and pace suit divers building experience. Between dives, you surface and rest on the boat before the second descent.
A few practical notes: bring a towel and swimsuit. Sunscreen and sunblock are not allowed because they damage coral. If boat motion bothers you, take anti-nausea medication an hour or two before departure. After diving, you'll need to wait 18 to 24 hours before flying, so plan accordingly if you're traveling that day.
